The Turkish Bazaar was built during the Ottoman period. The Bazaar, that is actually a long roofed street consisting of 50 stores, stood closed and unused for many years. Recently the market has been restored by the Antiquities Authority and it currently inhabits craftsmen, artists, coffee shops, a fabric store, a Judaica store, Galleries, shops selling boutique cheeses, oils, dead-sea cosmetics, Arabic needlepoint and gifts; and other stores are planned to open in the near future.
The one hundred meter (~109 yard) long Bazaar is entirely roofed. Its round stone arches allow natural illumination to enter through square openings that were left at the meeting point of the arches. The renovation was done with meticulous care to preserve the architectural structure and to pay respect to the history of the place, in order to provide an authentic touristic experience.
On Fridays and Saturdays the Turkish Bazaar holds an arts fair that includes various diversified workshops (molding on a potters’ wheel, kites and more)
